Hey ya witchy witch,
Guess who ended up with four out of five A's as of now? This chick. And guess who couldn't finish the last book in that series? Also me. Dude. Shelly somehow managed to write an entire book about nothing. Literally, nothing happened. Half the book is about a wedding. And then the wedding happens. That's two-thirds of the book right there. It was agonizing. And this one? Not much better. Let me spill the tea.
I finished Immortal by Gillian Shields. It's a book about a girl who gets sent to an exclusive, private, all-girls school after her grandma is hospitalized. There on scholarship and arriving after a tragedy, she's isolated and alone. Then she breaks the rules to go swimming and meets some boy. They hang out at night, it's a thing. And while this is happening, Evie sometimes sees this ghost that looks a lot like her. She thinks it is her. This is really all.
So, when I got this book, I was excited to see if my younger self chose out a good book, as some of the books I'm reading are books I put on my list years ago. This was one of them from 2014 or 2013. It started okay, and then nothing was happening. She was ordered to do chores as a scholarship student, and then it was never explained. Then she saw this ghost chick, which might not be a ghost(??), and then just ignores it. She meets this random boy that everyone, including what she thinks is her unconscious, tells her to stay away from him, and she continues to see him. Then somehow they fall in love? I can't tell you how, because I didn't witness it. All I saw was a couple of bro's hanging out outside after dark. And then she was like, "I love him," and I'm like, "What? Hello?" It was weird. And then she hated this girl, Helen, for a good two-thirds of the book, and then all of a sudden she's "sweet Helen" and "my friend Helen" and I was like, "????" Literally, nothing happens in the book until the last third or fourth of the book. There is no moving, nothing pushing the plot forward except journal entries from the past that she doesn't even read until the last third of the book. And those are inconsistent at best. How can there be a book with nothing happening? Ask Shelly Crane and Gillian Shields. I was going to read the second one, to see if it got interesting, but that's not bound to happen, so I'll be finding blog summaries. Also, they mention this sweet stable boy, who is probs gonna become a love triangle interest later, but my intrigue about him isn't going to make me read those books. Not when I have other books and the Throne of Glass series coming in the future. No, sir. I've had it.
